You should be watching “Carrier”

PBS is running a documentary series this week called “Carrier.” It follows the life of crew members aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz on their sixth month deployment to the Persian Gulf.

It’s interesting because the focus isn’t so much on the operations, but on the operators. It’s narrated completely by crew members — from the captain to enlisted personnel. From that perspective, the documentary probes deeper than just what’s on the surface in terms of what functions someone performs on the ship. Crew members tell us about their political views, personal lives, and reasons for joining the Navy.
