NYPD scare-tactics in full force

Looks like the NYPD has a new measure to fight terrorism:

At the local level, the authorities are experimenting with new ways to keep potential terrorists off guard.

In New York City, as many as 100 police officers in squad cars from every precinct converge twice daily at randomly selected times and at randomly selected sites, like Times Square or the financial district, to rehearse their response to a terrorist attack. City police officials say the operations are believed to be a crucial tactic to keep extremists guessing as to when and where a large police presence may materialize at any hour.

This is one of those instances where words just cannot possibly convey all that is involved. For times like this, thankfully there’s YouTube:

When future generations of Americans look back upon the ‘War on Terror,” I really hope they’re able to watch this video so that they’ll be able to visualize how we took a relatively small threat and blew it completely out of proportion.

You’re far more likely to be killed crossing the street or driving a car. Yet the NYPD prefers to repetitiously scare the crap out of the populous populace it swore to “serve and protect” by huddling en masse for no apparent purpose. If they really wanted to protect, their time would be better spent handing out tickets for jaywalking or speeding instead of taking part in this circus.

Thank you for pointing that out, pril. I’ve corrected it above.
