Muslims suppress film online; watch it here

A new Dutch film entitled “Fitna” brews Islam’s well known extremities into one steaming cauldron. Its release online yesterday has been met with death threats, DDoS attacks on hosts, and promises of terroristic reprisal in the Netherlands.

One of my favorite web sites, LiveLeak, was the first to host the film online. After hours of online attacks and death threats on its staff they chose to pull the film citing security concerns. Here’s part of a statement they released following their decision:

This is a sad day for freedom of speech on the net but we have to place the safety and well being of our staff above all else. We would like to thank the thousands of people, from all backgrounds and religions, who gave us their support. They realised LiveLeak.com is a vehicle for many opinions and not just for the support of one.

Perhaps there is still hope that this situation may produce a discussion that could benefit and educate all of us as to how we can accept one anothers culture. We stood for what we believe in, the ability to be heard, but in the end the price was too high.

Our world today has no room for those who believe that freedom of speech online is to be abridged. Web content cannot be subject to the feelings or interests of a few.

Unfortunately for these and other would-be suppressors of freedom online, the internet is much akin to a hydra. If you kill one head, another grows in its place.

I have uploaded the film to my server and you may watch it on the jump.

The film is slow to load, so give it some time.
