House holds hearing on/in Second Life
The House Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet held a hearing Thursday on virtual worlds which was simulcast in Second Life. There were all sorts of ridiculous questions posed, particularly those that focused on how Second Life was policing its site from terrorists. Despite their apparent ignorance on the subject, several committee members took the time to put their avatars in the virtual hearing room.
This was somewhat surprising considering the last appearance by a politician in Second Life. Last summer Mark Warner, Governor of Virginia and current candidate for one of that state’s senate seats, hosted a town hall. Unfortunately for Warner, he was hilariously unable to control his avatar on entrance:
